Wrought Iron Bench refurbishment - Circa early 1900's

I received a call from a lovely couple to look at their 2 old (over 80 years) wrought iron benches that required refurbishment. On closer inspection in the workshop, it became evident that the rust had developed deep inside each crevice and was corroding to the extreme.

This is a lengthy process but also a rewarding one. Each bench had to be carefully disassembled, which was a feat in itself. The paint (over 4 layers) was then ground down and polished. Unfortunately, the wrought iron studs had to be ground off as they were rusted badly and could not be rescued. They will be replaced with non-corroding galvanized bolts for easy dissasemmbly when the need for refurbishing arises again.

Although laborious, I love every moment of the process of seeing these beautiful benches come back to life, and cannot wait to see the owners' delight once the benches are fully restored!
